At this point, we’re pretty sure most of you skincare junkies have heard of this spot-clearing acid. If you’re constantly struggling with acne breakouts, excess sebum or clogged pores, then stop whatever you’re doing right now and read this!

a. Unclog Pores

Salicylic Acid belongs to the beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) family. It’s an oil-soluble ingredient that’s capable of penetrating deeper into the pores, unlike water-soluble alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that stays close to the skin surface. Salicylic Acid is able to break down keratin and slough off dead skin cells, loosening the blockage of skin impurities. This is the reason why this ingredient is perfect for people with blackheads and whiteheads because clogged pores are normally the main culprit of these two skin issues!

b. Reduce Blemishes

Salicylic Acid is widely known for its ability to reduce excess sebum and clogged pores, which indirectly leads to fewer acne breakouts. Thanks to its exfoliating properties, it also clears up rough, bumpy skin texture and leaves skin with a clearer and smoother complexion. Honestly, this should be your go-to skincare ingredient if you have oily, acne-prone skin!

Do note that Salicylic Acid may trigger purging and so patch testing prior to use is advised. For starters, it’s recommended for you to try Salicylic Acid in a cleanser because it has a short contact time on the skin compared to other leave-on products and hence, reduces the risk of irritation. All the best!
